Comparison of Msg/seviri Calibration Reference with Meris Brf over Bright Desert Calibration Targets
نویسنده
چکیده
Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) is the new generation of European geostationary meteorological satellites operated at EUMETSAT. SEVIRI, the MSG main radiometer, measures the reflected solar radiation within three spectral bands centered at 0.6, 0.8 and 1.6 m, and within a broad band similar to the VIS channel of MVIRI, the radiometer on-board the first generation of METEOSAT satellites. The operational calibration of these channels relies on modelled reflectances over bright desert sites, as no in-flight calibration device is available. These simulated reflectances represent therefore the “reference” against which SEVIRI is calibrated. The present study evaluates the uncertainties associated with the characterization of this “reference”, i.e., the modelled reflectances. To this end, top-of-atmosphere simulated reflectances are compared with calibrated space-borne observations acquired over the SEVIRI desert calibration sites. Results show that the relative bias between simulation and observation does not exceed 6%.

Radiative Transfer Code Comparison for Meris Vicarious Calibration
Different groups are involved in the MERIS vicarious activities. Most of the time, the prediction of the incoming radiance to the sensor needs radiative transfer computations. An inter comparison exercise is reported here based on radiative transfer computations with different codes applied on suitable test cases for vicarious calibration. Because the top of atmosphere signal over bright target...
متن کاملCalibration Status of the Aatsr Reflectance Channels
The radiometric gains of the AATSR visible to shortwave-infrared channels are calibrated using an on-board solar diffuser. The on-board calibration is supported by vicarious techniques such as comparisons over stable desert targets to establish relative biases in the radiometric calibrations of AATSR and other optical sensors and also to determine the long-term drifts. The authors present the r...

The Libya-4 desert area, located in the Great Sand Sea, is one of the most important bright desert CEOS pseudo-invariant calibration sites by its size and radiometric stability. This site is intensively used for radiometer drift monitoring, sensor intercalibration and as an absolute calibration reference based on simulated radiances traceable to the SI standard. The Libya-4 morphology is compos...
متن کاملSimulating Meteosat-7 broadband radiances using two visible channels of Meteosat-8
This paper addresses the conversion of narrow-to-broadband radiances in the special case of the sensor SEVIRI onboard the satellite Meteosat-8 of the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG). The advent of this new program poses the problem of the transfer of operational procedures from the previous satellite Meteosat-7 to MSG. Among these operational procedures are several different implementations of...
